Candies are essential in PokéRogue for powering up your starter Pokémon. They’re used to reduce the cost of a starter, as well as unlock its passive ability (often improving it massively), and to purchase eggs which can help with obtaining higher IVs and egg moves.
Here’s a straightforward guide to help you gather candies efficiently.
How To View Candies
This is a view of Snom, selected on the party creation screen when starting a new run. That circle on the top left is a Snom candy, and the x42 after it is how many Snom candies I currently have. Every starter will have the same display, though the candy will be colored differently for each.
The candies available can also be seen in the status screen during a run, as you can see on my Marshadow here.
Use Friendship to Earn Candies
- Earn candies through friendship: As your pokemon’s friendship level increases, you’ll earn candies for that species. Depending on the cost of the starter it takes 20-600 friendship to obtain one candy.
- Battle with your Pokémon: Winning battles increases your pokemon’s friendship level 2 points per battle.
- Rare candies: Rare candies obtained after a win/catch will add 5 friendship points to any pokemon they are given to.
- Candy friendship and the friendship stat used for attacks such as return and pika papow are not the same! There is no cap on candy friendship, it simply resets to 0 when you get a candy.
- You cannot view friendship at the time this is being written, so you’re stuck guessing where you’re at exactly. Just keep going, you’ll get there.
Catch or Hatch More Pokémon
- Catch Pokemon during runs: Capture more of the same species to accumulate 2 candies per catch or 5 for a shiny, this can be the fastest option for the more common legendries.
- Hatch Pokemon from eggs: Hatching pokemon from eggs contributes to your candy count faster but less reliably. You get 2 candies per normal hatch and up to 10 per shiny.
Tips and Tricks
- Unlock and play Endless Mode: Endless mode is a great way to catch tons of new pokemon and quickly progress through many battles.
- Obtain 3 Soothe Bell in endless on the pokemon you’re farming candies for. Then, feeding a rare candy per win will net you 21 friendship points – 15 for the rare candy plus 6 for the win. You’ll have all the candies you can eat in no time!
By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to collecting candies and strengthening your pokemon team in PokéRogue.
